about

Alabama-born soul singer Eddie Floyd found ideal songwriting partners in MGs members Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper and scored his biggest hits working with them. By the time California Girl was made, Jones and Cropper were breaking away from the MGs and Stax Records, but such was their loyalty to their old friend that they continued to collaborate with Floyd. Recorded in 1969 and ’70, the album contains the hits "Why Is the Wine Sweeter (On the Other Side)" and "California Girl," both co-written by Floyd and Jones.
